Kingdom County is a small rural township, just outside the reach of any effective law, and filled with members of one family, the Kinnesons. The family includes a preacher, Elijah (Tom Aldredge), a lawyer, Charlie (David Lansbury) and a troublemaker, Resolved (Bill Raymond) whom Charlie regularly represents in court. Andrews rubs some locals the wrong way and not just because he’s black and they are white. Some don't think it's proper for a pastor to be seen smoking in public, or defending his son against bigotry. Soon after Andrews has settled in, another stranger comes to town: a feisty young woman from Quebec, Claire LaRiviere (Jordan Bayne). Lured under false pretenses but unwilling to go home, she realizes she is in danger with nowhere to turn. Andrews, who preaches about charity, takes Claire into his home when no one else will. His decision does not sit well with many of his neighbours; it triggers a chain of events that lead to a brutal conclusion.
